Short-distance beaches

Visit some of the wonderful beaches located near our apartments, even within walking distance. Apovathra is a famous lengthy beach in the city center, with deep, dark blue waters. The beach of Agios Andreas is also very accessible from the accommodation and offers crystal-clear, deep waters, making it ideal for water sports and summer activities. Also, Megali Paralia, as its name suggests in Greek, is a really big beach and stretches for several kilometers on the eastern side of Ierapetra and has beautiful waters and a tranquil environment. For a more serene experience, consider visiting Kalamaki beach, an untouched beach, perfect for ultimate peace and contact with nature. Myrtos Beach, equally beautiful, offers umbrellas and sunbeds in a picturesque setting with pebbles and crystal-clear waters.

Ideal beaches for children

If you are traveling with the family, you will find beaches that offer everything both the young and the older look for. Agia Fotia is a marvellous beach that combines all shades of blue and green. A large rock provides shade for most of the day. Amenities include sunbeds, umbrellas and a beach bar for anything you might need during your stay. Another great option is Makris Gialos beach, which features shallow, calm waters, making it an ideal family-friendly choice for play and endless hours of swimming.

Crete or the Caribbean?

If you wish to experience a magical moment in the waters of Crete, be sure to visit Voulisma Beach (Golden Sand) in Agios Nikolaos. Offering golden sands and turquoise waters, it is located approximately 30 kilometers from the accommodation and is often compared to the Caribbean due to its exotic atmosphere.

Day trip to an oasis

A day trip to Chrissi Island (Gaidouronisi) is a must during your stay in Ierapetra. This exotic little island, with its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, is a paradise for those looking to relax and fully enjoy nature. Access is easy, as there is a boat service from Ierapetra that will take you directly to this small piece of heaven.

Nature explorations

Crete is known for its natural beauty, and Ierapetra, along with its surrounding areas, is no exception. The Ha Gorge is perfect for hiking and offers stunning views of the landscape. The Red Butterfly Gorge provides a unique walk through natural beauty, where you may encounter numerous small red butterflies, from which the gorge gets its name. After your adventure in the gorge, a visit to the picturesque village of Koutsouras and the unique Apigania forest is highly recommended. For even more summery experiences in nature, consider a trip to the Mylonas Waterfalls, which offer incredible beauty and a memorable green journey. The river's waters end in a small pond, perfect for a refreshing swim. Another must-see is the Vai Palm Forest in the nearby city Sitia, a unique ecosystem with natural palms and a stunning exotic beach, just 40 kilometers from the accommodation.

Sightseeing in Ierapetra

Ierapetra hosts many attractions worth your attention. The Kalé Fortress, built by the Venetians, offers historical insights and wonderful views. The Gournia Archaeological Site, one of the best-preserved Minoan settlements, provides a glimpse into the ancient history of the area. Additionally, the Ottoman buildings uncover the historical and architectural significance of the city, while at the Ierapetra Archaeological Museum, you can learn about the fascinating past of the area.

The old town of Ierapetra is full of charming alleys, traditional buildings and small shops. Stroll through the narrow streets, visit the Church of Afendis Christos and Napoleon’s House, and immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of the old town. Don’t forget to stop by one of the cafes to sample some local delicacies.

Discovering the surrounding areas

In the areas surrounding Ierapetra, you will find many picturesque and beautiful villages. Myrtos is known for its lovely beach and welcoming atmosphere. Anatoli offers panoramic views of the region and traditional Cretan hospitality. Finally, the coastal village of Pachia Ammos, with its charming lighthouse and the church of Saint Nicholas, is ideal for relaxing walks and delightful experiences at the traditional tavernas along the coast.

Visiting a historical island

Spinalonga, a small island near Agios Nikolaos, is famous for its history as a leper colony and Venetian fortifications. A visit to the island offers an interesting glimpse into the area's history and an opportunity to explore the ruins. You can reach Spinalonga by boat from Elounda or Agios Nikolaos.
